Now that consumers are used to sharing their private information for the convenience of using their phones and computers in the internet era, we should try to control the usage of our data. We have already written why users’ information is in demand for the last few years.

Undoubtedly, everyone knows that given information is being monitored by corporations and even governments. Today we have prepared a list of the data breaches with the highest harmful impact on the users.

Yahoo! In October 2017 a group of hackers accessed 3 billion users’ accounts. The investigation revealed that users’ passwords, credit card and bank information were not stolen. However, Yahoo made clients change the passwords to minimize future risks.

AADHAAR. The personal information of over a billion Indian people kept in the world’s largest biometric database “AADHAAR” could be purchased online in March of 2018. The hackers jeopardized Aadhaar holders’ personal information, including their names, photos, thumbprints, identity and bank account numbers.

First American Financial Corporation. In May 2019, 885 million company’s users became victims of hackers’ attack on their personal data . Stolen information contained archives for 16 years including photos, thumprints, identity and bank account numbers.

Described cases prove one more time that it is reasonable to store information in a decentralized way as nobody will have access to it except you. Note that it is also extremely important to control which websites you visit and what information you provide.
