Sanin Valentine was a priest, having served in Rome around the third century. Emperor Claudius II forbade marriage for young men because he believed that men with no family were better soldiers. Valentine disobeyed Claudius’s rules and continued to execute covert weddings for young couples, despite the decree’s unfairness. Claudius ordered Valentine’s to be put to death because of all the actions. Then, people, being thankful to the priest, start to preserve stories about him and celebrate the Sain Valentine’s Day as a remind that there is no border for love to exist.
Valentine may have been assassinated for attempting to assist Christians in escaping Roman jails. According to mythology, an imprisoned Valentine created the first “valentine” greeting after falling in love with a young girl who visited him during his confinement — possibly his jailor’s daughter. He is said to have sent her a letter inscribed “From your Valentine” just before his death, an idiom that is still used today.
