Why did we become more forgetful?
Today more and more people experience memory difficulties. 80% of the people, took part in the CNN study stated that their memory became worse. 55% noticed that they have problems with perception of time, so they can’t recall when a particular event happened. Scientists state that all these facts are the results of COVID-19 pandemic.
In which ways did pandemic affect our memory? Firstly, a disease, itself, tends to worsen our ability to recall and remember. The University of Cambridge research showed that COVID-19 has long-term influence on our cognitive skills. According to the study of 181 COVID recovered patients, 68% reported forgetfulness and brain fog — an inability to properly recall important events that happened in the past.
Secondly, lack of social contact during the quarantine regime, caused higher rates of depression and anxiety, which have an impact on our memory. Thirdly, we spend too much time with our gadgets. This led us to so-called digital amnesia. We are always surrounded by lots of information online, social media and advertisements always disturb us and, in this way, make our memory worse.
But it is extremely important not to forget valuable information, as scientists proved the correlation between our memories and well-being. If you did not know about it, check our previous article.
